Gravity Probe B (GP-B)

In 2011, nearly fifty years after its inception, the Gravity Probe B satellite mission delivered the first measurements of how a spinning gyroscope precesses in the gravitational warping of spacetime.

High-dimensional sensing for
autonomous driving

Autonomous perception for driverless vehicles has set extremely high requirements on imaging sensors such as lidars, radars, and cameras. Perception processes like clustering, classification, and tracking for extracting accurate 3-D spatial information has led to an unsustainable escalation of sensor hardware complexity/cost while producing diminishing returns.

Pulsed Field Ablation:
An Overview

This talk presents a review of pulsed field ablation, also known as electroporation. In many clinical applications, the therapy goal is to selectively destroy targeted tissue. A basic overview of this relatively new tissue ablation modality is provided and the technique is compared and contrasted with more conventional thermal approaches.

Physics of the Polar Auroras

Plasma physics behind the coronal mass ejections and solar wind will be discussed. Bow shock and capture of plasma in the earth's magnetic field will be described to explain the Van Allen radiation belts and spectacular colors of the polar auroras.
